(Senior) Electronics System Engineer – Smart Contact Lenses

Azalea Vision is transforming medical technology with its groundbreaking Smart Contact Lens innovation. As a venture-capital-backed startup and a proud spin-off from imec and Ghent University, we are at the forefront of MedTech and DeepTech, designing devices that improve lives.

Our Smart Contact Lenses feature cutting-edge technologies, including a custom ASIC microchip, micro battery, liquid crystal cell, and RF antenna, offering vision correction and enhanced quality of life for patients with complex ocular conditions.

These lenses are controlled and recharged using a handheld remote device, ensuring ease of use and optimal functionality.

We are seeking a (Senior) Electronics System Engineer to join our dynamic and ambitious team. This is your chance to take the lead in revolutionizing wearable medical devices, contributing to a future where innovation meets compassion.

Your impact

As a key member of Azalea Vision, you will:

  • Drive the design and development of the electronics system for our smart contact lenses and accompanying remote control devices through the various stages under ISO 13485.
  • Coordinate and oversee the efforts of our ASIC design house, PCB design houses, and software development partners.
  • Lead our electronics/firmware engineering initiatives as the go-to expert, combining strategic oversight with hands-on contributions.
  • Design PCB electronics and actively participate in testing, verification, and validation processes to ensure the performance and reliability of our smart contact lens systems.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone bold and visionary, with the skills to match:

  • A PhD or Master’s degree in electronics engineering, with extensive experience in electronics system design.
  • A strong foundation in analog electronics, PCB layout, and firmware programming.
  • Proficiency in Python and being highly skilled and adept with electrical measurement tools, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and VNAs.
  • Proven experience in leading projects, with a knack for guiding and coaching.
  • The ability to conceptualize, design, and execute in a fast-paced environment.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in regulated industries, particularly medical devices.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 standards and medical device testing, including IEC60601, ISO 14971, IEC62366, and IEC62304.

YOU WORK?

Azalea Vision’s R&D hub is based in Ghent (BE) at the Tech Lane Ghent with access to state-of-the-art infrastructure (cleanrooms, gray-rooms and specialized laboratories). Your daily office will be located at the modern AA Tower located in the Tech Lane, with access to a warm food restaurant, parking and bicycle space, and easy access to the main train station of the city (Ghent Sint-Pieters). From those coming from other countries you should know that people in Belgium are easy going and converse fluently in English and other languages, be it in the workplace, in daily encounters or in stores.
